Sowing instructions

Verbascum phoeniceum 'Rosetta' is easy to grow from seed. Choose a sunny to semi-shady location in well-drained soil. The best time for sowing is between February and April. The seeds need light to germinate - so you should only press them down lightly and not cover them with soil. Keep the seeds moist at all times, but avoid waterlogging. At a temperature of around 15-20°C, the seeds will germinate after 14-21 days. As soon as the small plants are strong enough, you can plant them outdoors. Make sure they have enough space, as the Rosetta mullein can grow up to 70 cm high.

Harvest, use & storage

Verbascum phoeniceum 'Rosetta' starts flowering in June and often continues until late summer. The delicate, pink flowers add a romantic touch to your garden and are also a valuable source of nectar for bees and butterflies. You can regularly remove the wilted flowers to keep them fresh. If you want to harvest the seeds, wait until late summer when the seed capsules are brown and dry. Store the harvested seeds in a cool, dry place to sow them again next year.

Tips & Tricks

If you want to maximize the flowering of Verbascum phoeniceum "Rosetta", place the plants in a sheltered, windless spot. The plant loves well-drained soil, so loosen the soil regularly to prevent root rot. Mulching helps to retain moisture in the soil, especially during hot summer days. In addition, 'Rosetta' is a hardy perennial that survives well in colder months - cut the plant back in the fall to prepare it optimally for winter.

Worth knowing

Verbascum phoeniceum "Rosetta", also known as purple mullein, is not only a visual highlight, but also easy to care for and robust. It thrives in most garden soils and is ideal for herbaceous borders or natural gardens. Thanks to its long flowering period and its attractiveness to insects, it is a valuable addition to natural gardens. Rosetta is also suitable as an indoor cut flower.
