Sowing instructions

Sowing Grindella robusta, also known as rubber plant or resin plant, is uncomplicated and ideal for garden enthusiasts. Sow the seeds in spring, preferably from March, in nutrient-rich potting compost. You should only lightly cover the seeds with soil as they are light germinators. A sunny location is crucial, as the plant needs plenty of light to grow vigorously. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Germination usually takes 2-4 weeks. When the young plants have reached a height of around 5 cm, you can transfer them to larger pots or plant them outdoors.

Harvest, use & storage

Grindella robusta is primarily known for its medicinal properties. You can harvest the plant's flowers and leaves as soon as they are fully developed - usually from mid-summer. It is best to harvest them on a sunny, dry day to preserve the active ingredients. The collected parts can be used fresh or dried. To dry them, spread them out in a well-ventilated place until they are completely dry. You can then store them in an airtight container and use them as a tea or for ointments as required.

Tips & Tricks

Grindella robusta prefers a sunny and dry location, ideally in well-drained soil. It is fairly easy to care for and requires little fertilizer. Make sure to water it regularly but sparingly - it does not tolerate waterlogging well. Outdoors, it is hardy down to around -5 °C. In colder regions, it is advisable to cultivate the plant in pots and move it to a frost-free place for the winter.
