Sowing instructions

Vigna Radiata seeds, also known as mung beans, are perfect for beginners and experienced gardeners alike. Start by soaking the seeds in a bowl of water for about 8-12 hours. This helps to promote germination. Sow the soaked seeds in well-drained soil, preferably in a container or directly in the garden. Make sure to plant them about 2-3 cm deep. The best time for sowing is in late spring, when temperatures are consistently above 15°C. Keep the soil evenly moist but not too wet to avoid mold growth.

Tips and tricks

For optimal germination, choose a sunny location, because mung beans love light! If you live in a cooler climate, you can also start the seeds indoors in a seed tray. Make sure to water the young plants regularly, but avoid waterlogging. Mung beans are nitrogen-fixing plants, which means they enrich the soil with nitrogen. You can therefore use them wonderfully as green manure.

Worth knowing

Vigna radiata are not only easy to care for, but also extremely nutritious. The sprouts are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals and are perfect for salads, soups or as a side dish. The seeds start to germinate after just 2-3 days and you can harvest the first pods after around 60-90 days. Incidentally, mung beans are also an excellent choice for indoor cultivation, as they require little space and grow quickly.
