Sowing instructions

Would you like to bring the fascinating world of Boswellia serrata, also known as Indian frankincense, into your garden? Start sowing in spring as soon as temperatures are consistently above 20°C. Use well-drained, sandy soil and press the seeds lightly into the soil without burying them too deeply. Keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging to prevent mold growth. A bright location without direct sunlight is ideal for germination, which can take around 2-4 weeks.

Harvest, use & storage

After 5-7 years, you can harvest the valuable resin that makes Boswellia serrata so special for the first time. To do this, the bark is carefully scratched so that the resin emerges and dries in the air. After a few weeks, you can collect it and use it for a variety of applications, such as in aromatherapy or to make incense. Store the resin in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to preserve its quality.

Tips & Tricks

Boswellia serrata prefers warm, dry climatic conditions. Overwinter the plants indoors or in a greenhouse if temperatures fall below 5°C. Use organic fertilizer during growth to ensure the nutrient supply. Be careful not to overwater the plants as they are drought resistant.
